A One Minute Escape From Winter

As I write my blog for this week, I am looking out of my window at a white winter wonderland. Nice, if you can stay in and enjoy it, but life goes on, and daily chores and errands in the 'white stuff' are challenging when conditions are bad. Currently, snow is falling and there is a winter weather advisory in effect for slick roads, frigid temperatures and a 4-6 inches of accumulation!

Was it only 2 weeks ago I was in the Turks and Caicos Islands feeling the warmth of the summer sun and choosing shorts and swimsuits as my daily attire? Was it only 2 weeks ago that I fell asleep and awakened (with windows wide open) to the rhythm of the ocean waves? And is summer's arrival really four whole months away???

This week, I wanted to share a one minute video with you (made with my Canon Powershot S90) during my stay in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Watching it allows me to mentally escape the bitter cold and to share a bit of summer with those who are currently in the grips of 'Old Man Winter.'

Once again, I think video enhances the still image.
Hmmm...I believe it's time to go shovel the driveway again...Is winter over yet???

Power in the Palm of My Hand

My new year began with a week of relaxation in the Turks and Caicos Islands. What a nice break from the snow and cold of the Midwestern United States...

Once settled in our accommodations on the island of Providenciales on beautiful Grace Bay, I quickly adjusted to the pace of island life, lounging in the warmth of the sun and walking the expansive beach to the rhythm of the turquoise waves...

My Canon Powershot S90 'point and shoot' was my photographic companion for my visit- lightweight, very portable and effortless. I discovered how powerful this little camera could be as I challenged myself to make it my main choice for capturing my vision for the week.  It was so much fun discovering all the tricks this camera could do!  From macro to videos, candid shots to serious compositions, I learned that my S90 is so much more than a "point and shoot" and it allowed me to bring back a collection of both fun and serious images without toting the heavy camera bag.  This was truly a vacation for me!

This week's photo was made in the harbor at Turtle Cove.  While strolling the dock with my daughter, the ever-changing shimmering reflections of the water on a boat hull and on the water's surface caught my eye. I composed the image as an abstract of lines, shape and patterns and it turned out to be one of my favorite images from the week.

My Canon S90 was recently replaced by a newer model: the Canon Powershot S95.  If interested in the specs of this little powerhouse, click here.
